test 3 Sunrises and Surprise Conversations

By Kaz

One bright and early Saturday morning, I was sitting in my usual spot on a wicker couch, perfectly positioned in front of an awesome beach club bar. The view stretched magnificently across the ocean, which transformed from a low-tide desert to waves lapping the top of the retaining wall at high tide—just two metres from my comfy couch. Out in the distance, remote and tranquil islands rose up across the horizon. It was another breathtaking morning at beautiful Rawai Beach, Thailand.

I’ve always been someone who follows an early morning routine pretty strictly. No matter how unpredictable the rest of my day becomes—often resembling a bowl of spaghetti—I find comfort in the consistency of my mornings. Sunrise watching, early walks, ocean swims, floating meditation, and, of course, my morning coffee are my sacred rituals. On this particular Saturday, I was also enjoying a FaceTime call with my soul sista in Oz, a special Saturday tradition.

As I chatted away about life, a heavily tattooed, black-haired, ripped, good-looking young guy strolled by. He seemed completely in his own world, another early bird soaking up the sunrise energy. He asked to borrow my lighter, and I continued my conversation. Still, I sensed he wanted to strike up a chat. I’ll admit, I felt a flicker of annoyance—an unwillingness to break my ritual. That moment reminded me how important it is to stay flexible, to allow life’s interruptions to unfold. Sometimes, the best moments come from the unexpected.

Fast forward a couple of days, and that brief encounter had blossomed into a beautiful friendship with Ocean. What a silver lining that turned out to be. When two firecracker personalities meet—both spiritually grounded and open to deep, judgment-free conversations—it’s magic.

The day before Ocean and his gorgeous partner Lily joined us for a podcast, he and I had a full-on moment. It started as an altercation about AI. Ocean, calm and passionate, tried to share his perspective, while I went full “Karen” on him. I believe my exact words were, “Fuck off with your AI and let me enjoy what Mother Nature has on offer this morning! I’m NOT INTO AI. I don’t want to know about it and I’m not engaging!”

In response, Ocean—ever the creative—used AI to instantly produce a reel of an agro woman on a beach in Thailand yelling at her phone. It was hilarious, the perfect ice-breaker, and, truth be told, it softened my resistance. Maybe AI wasn’t the enemy after all.

The next day, Ocean and Lily joined Leon and me on the couch for a podcast. What unfolded was so rich and layered that we had to split it into two parts. It was raw, real, and full of laughter, insight, and connection.

Tune in, buckle up, and enjoy the ride. May you find your own silver linings in the most unexpected conversations.

Thank you for listening.
